Evidence-Based Foundation

SalivaTests.com was established to provide reliable, plain-language education on salivary diagnostics in oral health care. Because emerging diagnostic technologies can easily be exaggerated by commercial interests, we adhere to strict editorial and scientific standards grounded in peer-reviewed evidence.

Our clinical educational articles are researched and developed using authoritative resources, beginning with:

  • American Dental Association (ADA) Science & Research Institute: We closely monitor and align our content with the ADA Oral Health Topics on Salivary Diagnostics and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH) & NIDCR: National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research literature on salivary gland physiology, xerostomia, and oral microbial ecology.
  • Peer-Reviewed Dental & Periodontal Journals: The Journal of Dental Research, Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA), and Journal of Clinical Periodontology.

Critical Distinctions in Our Clinical Content

In every educational article, our editorial framework strictly differentiates between:

  1. What an Assay Measures: (e.g. bacterial DNA copy numbers, flow rate in mL/min, or colorimetric pH changes).
  2. What a Result May Be Associated With: (e.g. a statistical correlation with caries risk or periodontal pocket depths).
  3. What Has Been Established as Clinically Useful: (e.g. identifying severe hyposalivation to initiate targeted remineralization or fluoride therapy).
  4. What Remains Scientifically Uncertain: (e.g. the clinical validity of salivary biomarkers for broad cancer screening or predicting cardiovascular disease).

Prohibited Exaggerations on SalivaTests.com

We strictly prohibit unsubstantiated commercial wellness marketing and misleading diagnostic claims, including:

  • “Prevent heart attacks with a saliva test”
  • “Catch all diseases before symptoms occur”
  • “99% accurate cure for gum disease”
  • “FDA-approved test for tooth decay or periodontitis” (As confirmed by the ADA in October 2023, there are no FDA-approved salivary tests for evaluating periodontal or caries risk).

Complete Separation of Editorial Content & Directory Listings

To safeguard patient trust:

  • Independent Clinical Information: Our educational guides, limitations, and visit questions are produced independently of whether a dental practice chooses to participate in our directory.
  • No Paid Endorsements: Dental practices cannot purchase clinical endorsements, editorial modifications, or favorable medical claims.
  • Clear Sponsorship Disclosures: Any future paid directory placements or sponsored features will be clearly and prominently marked with a “Sponsored” badge, completely separate from organic directory search results.
  • No Per-Patient Referral Fees: We do not operate a per-patient referral fee or lead broker model. Patients communicate directly with their chosen dental practices.
